Here you can see the difference in colour between the original finish and the newly sanded bits. I love the way the wood grain is more noticeable now. I personally really like the softer, natural colour of the wood, which will look much better in my house than the dark varnish.

The damage to the 2nd drawer (where the handle must have become  loose and has been spun, gouging the wood) will be easy to fix.

Inside the drawers are rather stained and dirty, think I will give them a clean up and paint them to finish the job.
