Drivers could hardly fail to get the message that part of the Leatherhead by-pass is closed. Locals know that this means that Leatherhead, which has a complicated one way system, will be even more clogged up than usual. Those in the know could take a cross country lane with passing places and this is what Normous does when making his way to the golf club. The official published diversion takes drivers twenty miles out of their way! The road is closed because they are repairing a bridge, and it is scheduled to last five weeks.
