Aylsham Roman Project
This morning I went to the Aylsham Roman Project with a few camera club members to take a few photos. It is a community project which aims to explore and preserve the Roman settlement uncovered in 2015. Peter, the land owner, came across several bits of broken pottery and Roman coins over the years and invited Britannia Archaeology to do a survey. There's been an overseen community dig for 3 weeks in August each year since 2016. Volunteers welcome visitors to the site; get involved in digging, sieving & washing; drawing & recording; photography and other sundry tasks. The volunteer in the photo is sieving and sorting through the soil that's been removed and most volunteers seemed to be doing this. There's a second site round the other side of a lake that they think is medieval. Such an interesting project.
