Enough room for a safe landing

After Tsuken had a full morning at Karate training, we had lunch and headed out west to Muriwai, and the gannet colony. The birds pay no attention to the humans who come to look at them. Soaring effortlessly on the strong winds from across the Tasman Sea, they circle around until the approach path and the strength of the wind are right, and they land in a space near their mate.

Takapu is the name given them by Maori. They are preparing for mating and egg laying. We saw many pulling green and dry grass and then flying away with what they managed to get.
