Grave of Elizabeth Mackie Hess

Elizabeth Hess, who died in 1891, was the first wife of Carl Hess. She is buried in this churchyard in South Wales. After Elizabeth’s death Carl remarried, and the offspring of that second marriage was Rudolf Hess - of Nazi Party fame. After Rudolf flew to Scotland in 1941 he was incarcerated briefly in Maindiff Court in Abergavenny - just a few miles from here. I wonder if he ever knew how close he was to the grave of his father’s first wife.
