George Square, Underbelly or Udderbelly?
Trundled up on the 44 to Balerno at the end of a long day in Edinburgh although we did feel that the night was still young as we left at 22.45 with crowds of people thronging the streets, eating and drinking and lining up to watch late night shows.
For once, it was a balmy evening in the city with people making the best of the weather in the outdoor bars.
We saw a couple of shows at the Fringe. Tim Eady at the Ukrainian Community Centre on Royal Terrace and Baby Wants Candy at George Square. Tim Eady is an extremely talented multi instrumentalist from Kent, of all places, playing guitar, button accordion and various gizmos to build up layers of music all delivered in a humorous style.
Baby Wants Candy is a musical improvisation show where the cast perform a show based on a titles shouted out by the audience with a vote deciding which title became to night’s theme.
The overwhelming winner was Penguins Find Irn Bru on Mars which was duly performed in the style of a musical accompaniment by a band. It was hilarious, wonderful improvisation, great singing and acting which enthralled the audience for the full hour.
Other items of note from the day included a walk from Princes Street to Stockbridge via The Pantry for lunch and Artisan Coffee then along the Water of Leith Walkway to..... erm Leith. A pint and nachos at the Doctors pub before Baby and bangers and mash (or in Susan’s case haggis and mash) at Mums after the Baby.
Today’s blip is of the purple cow in George Square that has become an icon of the Underbelly or Udderbelly at Edinburgh and now it seems elsewhere in the UK.
(Edit: Udderbelly is the name for this purple tent, Underbelly is the name of the management company, one of the big 4 companies involved in the Fringe)
