The Albert Sullivan Memorial

I have always been fascinated by this statue in Embankment Gardens. The monument features a weeping Muse of Music who is so distraught that her clothes are falling off. The sculpture is topped with a bust of Sullivan ( of Gilbert and Sullivan fame) with the inscription ‘Is life a boon? If so, it must befall that Death when’re he call, must call too soon’ Gilbert’s words from ‘ The Yeoman of the Guard’
