Reader's Pick:
The entire store.
I kept cool in Powell's Books for a chunk of my afternoon downtown on this hot, muggy, and smoky day. We traveled via Tri-Met's nicely air-conditioned #75 bus and transferred to its nicely air-conditioned Yellow Max Line. I got off at NW 6th and Davis while Eric continued on to the Art Museum.
His goal was to be there by himself to closely examine every amazing automobile and its accompanying text in the wonderful "The Shape of Speed" exhibit.
My goal was to get out of the house. I was really trying to get away from myself and the heartache that follows me around like a Yellowjacket. It worked, too, for awhile. I roamed through Powell's, then walked down to the Museum by hugging the shade wherever I could find it. At the Museum I looked for a sympathy card to send my cousin whose husband died on Sunday. Note to self: never look at sympathy cards again.
