Exploring
In the centre of Newport Pagnell there is a very large area of Common land, Bury Field, which is popular with local walkers and dog owners. I'm almost embarrassed to say that even though I have lived in the area for over 30 years, apart from a couple of years ago when they had a Civil War re-enactment I have never set foot in it. So today we put that right. We had a walk right round the Common, had a look at where they tried to build a railway across it in 1866 but ran out of money, and then continued up the lane at the other end of the Common to the lakes formed from old brick quarries. The main shot is of one of the lakes; it's difficult to believe that although it looks so tranquil it is actually only a few hundred yards from the M1 motorway so the noise was pretty loud.
I've added an extra of an unexpected sign on the walk up to the lakes. It was a narrow, muddy, wooded lane that was overgrown by trees and brambles, and yet judging by this sign not only was there once a road here, there was also a junction. Where the junction used to be we saw one rabbit who eyed us up and down before slowly loping away.
