Cogs

This is the hinge from my knee splint.  The cogs in the hinge look quite worn.  This has been the support for my right knee for the last 5 years, and for 4 of those years it served very well.  Over the last year, despite the splint, my knee has been causing more and more problems. 

Over the last few weeks, the splint has been "clunking" a bit at times when I'm walking - I think it's on its last legs.  Fortunately, I should be able to discard it completely after my op in 2 weeks time.
