Calderstones Park

A new Superlative Walk today, around Woolton, an attractive suburb of Liverpool, which was the childhood home of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Here are Andy, Bonnie, Bruce, Chris and Martin outside 20 Forthlin Road, where Paul McCartney lived with his family in the 1950s.

In the picturesque village, just around the corner from the splendid Woolton Picture House, is the gravestone which mentions Eleanor Rigby. Not far from there is Mendips, where John Lennon lived with his Aunt Mimi. Near there is Strawberry Field, where he played as a child.

Just opposite the elaborate gates to Calderstones Park is the school formerly known as Quarry Bank High School, where Lennon formed his first band, the Quarrymen, later joined by Paul McCartney and George Harrison and renamed The Beatles.
