A Day at Sea
Today has been a day at sea as the boat makes it's way down the coast from Dubrovnik towards Malta, where we will be arriving in Valletta tomorrow morning. So with everyone on board and no one able to get off for excursions I thought it would feel very busy or even crowded today - but I was wrong, somehow the boat just seems to absorb all the people and there is always a quiet spot where you can sit away from everyone else. Luke was working on his mini dissertation (required after his year abroad during the 3rd year of his studies) and he managed to find a quiet place to sit and work in one of the lounges, and Adam found another quiet place to do his stuff, on the top deck in a library that is not used at all.
I don't like to lie in the sun anymore, we seem to spend our life avoiding cancer by what we eat and put in to our bodies and then it seems silly to lie there and literally fry in the sunshine inviting those skin cancer cells right in. One man was sitting in the hot tub today and it reminded me of boiling lobsters, as only his red head was sticking out and he was just simmering away in the water! We found a lounger in the shade and I enjoyed reading my excellent book which I finished (Warlight by Michael Ondaatje). Its been a very lazy and relaxing day.
We seem to miss the onboard activities as we forget to go to them - we have missed some very good lectures but today Adam noticed there was a trivia quiz on and suggested we go to it - we did and we won it! Again there was only a small amount of people at the quiz, nothing is crowded or too busy. There are 9 restaurants on the ship and some require reservations but others you can just walk in and always get a table which is very good. This boat is the largest in their fleet and has about 590 guests on board which we thought would be too big - the other cruise we have previously done only had about 380 guests which was lovely, but thankfully this seems to have the facilities of a large ship without feeling as if there are too many people. We have met some very nice people too, so all in all we are enjoying it very much. The food is amazing, such variety and of a very high standard - have to keep jogging every morning!
We are missing Thomas! He is now at the rugby training in Biarritz but will return on the 27th.
This is a pre-sunset image - the problem is that sunset is at about 8.30pm when we are eating dinner so I can't really be fussing about with my camera then, so it has to be a pre-sunset shot. I have added an extra of the sunset last night over Dubrovnik before we set sail.
