Pokeweed
Phytolacca americana
These berries are a popular foodsource for songbirds, small mammals, and some caterpillars. Highly toxic to humans, the plants can grow up to 8 feet high. Indians used them for poultices. 19th Century folklore and herbalists claim they have medicinal value. The berries are now the subject of biomedical research.
Wishing you all a good start to the week.
