We're off

Mum and I are finally off to Marrakech today. After a quick lunch at Gatwick we were checked-in and flying off into the sunset. After arriving in Marrakech we got stuck in a customs queue for nearly an hour which was a pain but luckily our driver was patiently waiting for us and we were soon off into the city. Arriving at night always makes somewhere feel more alien and the pink walls and crazy narrow streets were soon in our sights. The first thing you notice is the driving and that there are no obvious rules to the road. Motorbikes, cars, donkeys, people and horse and carts all compete for the same narrow road space but it somehow works.

We were staying at the Riad Assakina which looked even better in real life than on the website. It was like entering a different world from the hustle and bustle outside. We were met and greeted by Grant and Michelle who own and built the Riad. After some mint tea and dates we took a tour of the Riad and had our first view over the rooftops of Marrakech. We decided to have tapas for dinner before hitting the sack ready for exploring in the morning.
