There are so many interesting insects and other little creatures in the garden – some are pretty and some are ugly.  Some are pests and some are beneficial.  I don’t recall noticing Tachnid flies (Tachina Fera)  before but there were three seeking nectar on the Queen Anne’s lace.  Compared with the other flies around, these are really big and ugly but are beneficial as they are parasitic and attack the larvae of various garden pests. The fly has a black thorax and a pale orange abdomen with a black central band.

I have altered the info since gen2 has correctly identified it.
