The Bronze Age @ Ballyrisode
A day when a leisurely coffee at the Here & Zen (I'm not sure I have name absolutely correct) overlooking the sea and Long Island turned into a day of exploration with our mates Robert & Finola. The sun shone and thus fuelled we went off to explore the rather intriguing Bronze Age feature pictured above. Can you see it? Look hard- it's that almost rectangular thing plus two small standing stones. Probably a fulacht fiadh or burnt mound, possibly a sweat house fuelled by seawater and hot stones, or maybe a cist burial. And just look at the setting right on Ballyrisode strand.
En route to lunch we stopped off to examine a potential site for white herb robert (!) and got distracted by this abandoned house (plus tractor). Still enroute to lunch we lingered at White Strand to admire the odd set of standing stones (field boundary?) and a huge possible standing stone - all get at-able as the tide was way out.
Lunch was finally enjoyed al fresco at O Sullivan's Bar in Crookhaven. The joys of just being able to go off on a whim!
I'm off piste for a few days now as I have a theatrical date with my brother across the water! Catch up shortly.
