Corfe Castle

The day began at an ungodly hour this morning with Miss L whining about coming down from the roof. At 6am. Uuughhhh!!!!!!
As usual I felt much better once I'd had several cups of tea, sat out in the sun for a bit and had breakfast (feeling virtuous as I resisted the Choco-Pillows - which the Little Misses shovel in as if they haven't eaten for a year - and had All Bran and almond milk. Polishes halo!!)
Mr K stayed at the campsite to work while the rest of us walked the lovely walk to Corfe Castle before lunch. It's about fifteen minutes from the campsite and I love the point where you go round a corner in the path and the castle appears in front of you (see extras)
We had lots of fun in the river on the way. There was lots of padding and then my adventurous Little Misses set off along the river rather than the path. How they didn't end up falling in and soaked remains a mystery!!!
When we were here in back in May there was a Saxon encampment at the castle and today there was a Civil War camp. We do love a re-enactment!
Before going into the castle we went into the Greyhound pub to book a table for dinner and then to the bakery for sausage rolls for lunch. I popped into the National Trust cafe and got a gluten free brownie for Miss L.
Why oh why is it so hard to get decent snacks for her when we're out?
And why oh why can I never remember to bring something for her?!!
The heavens opened while we ate our healthy nutritious lunch so we sheltered in the National Trust entrance office until it had passed.
Then we had a lovely few hours exploring the ruins, watching the trains pass, following the treasure trail and hunting for answers to their questions on their sheets, learning how to load muskets, get the rust off armour, and write with a quill and ink.
It was ace!!
And I was so proud of Miss E when she leapt to Miss L defence at one point. Miss L was writing Mr K a lovely letter with the quill saying what a lovely time we'd had at the castle and that she wrote this letter with a........
She came back in tears because the man in the booth had been mean and told her to stop and that she was only supposed to write her name not use all the paper. Twat.
I was about to say that I'd go back with her and tell the man to go f**k himself and let my daughter finish her lovely letter to her Daddy ask the man to let her finish her letter when an incensed Miss E leapt to her feet, threw her arms round Miss L and led her back to the tent. Miss L didn't want to write any more so Miss E finished it for her. Adding the word "quill" and both their names. That's all Miss L had wanted to do!
Miss E is a child who refuses to get out of the car on Mufti Day at school in case she's the only one out of uniform, asks if I'm sure this is the right day/time/place whenever we go anywhere new and hates, hates, hates to draw attention to herself if there's any potential for awkwardness.
So for her to be so indignant on her sister's behalf and to march over to a grown up ready to give him a piece of her mind was quite something to behold.
We got ice creams and then walked back to the campsite getting caught in a shower on the way.
There was just time for a cup of tea before all jumping in the car back into Corfe for dinner at The Greyhound.
It was delicious!!!! I had the tastiest meal I can remember having for ages - amazing sea bass.
As we ate pudding we had the most hilarious game of Accentuate which I can highly recommend as a family game to make you laugh. You have to pick a card for a quote and another for the accent you have to read it out in. Absolutely brilliant! I can't imagine what our fellow diners made of our bizarre statements in bizarre accents but it was so much fun!!!!
