Hunter and hunted

The hunter had the luxury of focus. Secure at the top of the food chain, she didn’t need to worry about her back. Her eyes were set together at the front of her face. Good for stereo imaging. Not good for peripheral vision. She concentrated on finding her prey. If she had known a bit more about the food chain, that it had another link that she didn’t know about, maybe she would have paid more attention to the faint noises behind her.
