You know when you are old

Even pilots look young!!!!

A trip to London to meet up with Alison and the children. We had a list of things to do and see, so started with a repeat boat trip from Westminster to Greenwich. Our last meeting planned for the end of July was cancelled as the temperatures were sky high and Annie had the shingles. Today it was low 20’s and perfect.

We had taken a light packed lunch for the boat trip which we enjoyed and when we got to Greenwich the choices were the museum (which was being evacuated...no idea why), the Cutty Sark or late lunch!!! Max was hungry so it was late lunch .....which took ages!!!

We then had to decide on a choice between the Cutty Sark or the Emirates Sky Line. The children chose the sky line, so it was on to the Docklands Light railway to Canary Wharf then the Jubilee line to the O2. Changing lines at Canary Wharf is a challenge as you exit the DLR through a shopping mall and the sign posting is rubbish. We had to ask for directions from a very helpful lady.

The children were enthralled with the sky line, Annie was especially pleased to see planes landing at City Airport passing close overhead (relatively speaking). Max (Mr pessimist) kept saying that they would crash into the water!!!
We stayed on and did a return trip. A visit to the adjoining building containing flight simulators, allowed the children to be pilots for a few minutes!! The joy of all of those switches!!!

Then to the O2 and amazingly the children spent time playing on a thing with poles!!! Not sure what it was called, pic in extras, but it illustrates that you don’t have to spend a fortune on activities and they don’t always have to contain a battery.

The discussion returned to the subject of more food!! I had forgotten that this young boy is constantly hungry. We managed to defer that request and headed back to the underground as I had to get back to Kings Cross and they to Liverpool Street. A promise of food at the station was accepted.

I arrived in time to get a bowl of fruit and a cold drink for the journey home. B collected me from the station at Newark for the final leg. I returned from London at this time 3 weeks ago and it was still daylight, whereas tonight it was really dark!!! The dark nights are creeping in.

The Cutty Sark is on the list for October half term, along with the Science Museum!!! Young people’s expectations will need to be managed in advance. London is a big city and distances look small on a map!!!

A great day out!!!
Posted late as I was exhausted and ready for bed.
