Ketchikan
We both loved this town. Really quirky and so much to see! I hadn't realised before we got here that it is actually an island. There are only 32 miles of road on the island. Many of the 'streets' in town are actually wooden staircases rather than roads. They're amazing - but I wouldn't want to be moving into one of those houses up the top!
We took a local tour out to one end of the road to see bears and eagles feeding on salmon (no bears around while we were there but plenty of eagles) then went back through town and out to Potlatch Totem Park. I found the totem park far more fascinating than I expected to. There is a pole there that was carved by a visiting group of Maori back in 40's or 50's - carving Alaskan totem features but in a Maori style. Our driver and tour guide was really great - a real local.
The extra is of a bald eagle waiting above the river for salmon.
