De la Warr Pavilion, Bexhill
Yesterday may have officially been the last day of summer, but September started gloriously with temperatures in the low 20's and I'm now glad that I travelled home yesterday as it meant we could go out today.
I suggested going to Bexhill-on-Sea which is further along the coast near Hastings, and somewhere we've never been but I've seen photos of the De la Warr Pavilion which was built in 1935 by the 9th Earl De la Warr. It has an auditorium, cafe and exhibition space with a roof top terrace, so we sat on the roof and had a drink enjoying the view out to sea.
I love the art-deco style of the building and we were both very nicely surprised and very impressed with Bexhill, it's a lovely seaside resort and not overly touristy - the Pavilion and gardens are right on the seafront with a nice promenade. This weekend there's a Festival of the Sea, so it was quite vibrant and there were lots of stalls selling food and drinks so we had a wander round those and then strolled along the promenade where there was a Mermaid competition for children and adults, although some of the adults looked a bit old for it!
Alan said there was a gun shop in Hastings that he'd be interested to go to seeing as we were nearby and it turned out to be a good call for him as they had an air rifle that he'd been wanting - someone who's a regular customer had bought it a week last Friday but by chance went in the following day and saw a gun that had come in that he really wanted so asked if they'd take the other one back and he traded in a lot of his guns to buy the new, more expensive one. Therefore although it had only been bought the day before, and was basically still new, it had to be sold as second hand and Alan said he would have regretted it if he didn't buy it. He's even got the full warranty on it, so he's a very happy boy!
When we got home I prepared a home made chicken jalfreizi and then we sat in the garden until the sun went down and it felt cooler, and moved into the Palace for a bit. All in all, it's been a lovely day!
