Life through the lens...

The East Window.

Looking towards the East window in the ruined Medieval Church of Wharram Percy
I liked the shadows and sunlight shining through the windows down the side.

Very HOT!
Not ideal weather for an 8 mile walk in the Yorkshire Wolds.
It had forecast cloud with sunny intervals. Temp 22C.
However it was clear blue sky, not a cloud to be seen, hot sun and 27C. No shade either on our walk.
The walk took us from Wharram Percy Wold, along Centenary and Yorkshire Wolds Way, past Rainthorpe Manor, through Thixendale and finished at the deserted Medieval village of Wharram Percy.
One of the largest and best preserved of Britain’s 3000 or so known deserted medieval villages
Perched on the side of a remote and beautiful valley in the Yorkshire Wolds.
Occupied continuously for six centuries. before it was abandoned soon after 1550.
Today the outlines of many lost houses were overgrown with tall grass, but the remains of the church were interesting and beautiful.
The standing fabric of the Church of St Martin’s, is mainly 12th to 15th century, but stands on the site of 10th and 10th to 11th century chapels.
I must say I was disappointed with the village remains, but was an interesting end to our walk.
Just had another 3/4 of a mile hilly, and uneven path back to the car!

Fortunately a good journey back home, as we were both very tired. Worth the 120mile round trip though.
