Checker Spot Butterfly

One of the local natives, but becoming uncommon. Loss of habitat and native vegetation is the main reason for reduced numbers. At the preserve, an organization called Grass Roots is re-establishing native plants in areas that attract the local native birds and butterflies. This one is enjoying one of those re-introduced plants/flowers.
