I love Christmas cake but it's impossible to buy here, unless you want stollen, which has its place, but fruity, rich and over indulgent cake it's not.
So for the last five years I've made my own, using a Nigella recipe. The fruit has been
soaking up brandy for at least a week and this afternoon I pulled the other constituent parts together, it's now cooking and filling the house with the aroma of Christmas, bliss.
