Frilly fritillary
I had a couple of better photos but I chose this one because you can see both sides of its wings. Spare blip in extras: S investigating a local bit of industrial heritage in Tavascan. We are spending a few days at Bordes de Graus in the Pyrenees, with our friends G and A. It's not that far from us as the crow flies, but it took a large chunk of the day to get here because the route is so tortuous.
Once settled in, we had a brief restorative walk by the river to stretch our legs before repairing to the bar for an even more restorative G & T. We're all staying in an apartment attached to the main house at this rural campsite, so we then enjoyed a home-made meal of peperonatatouille (it was supposed to be ratatouille but we only had two tiny aubergines from our garden and no courgettes -- but plenty of tomatoes and peppers).
Last night my one street in Lézignan, started so long ago in 2012, was finally inaugurated in grand pomp. That is to say, tedious rambling speeches from the politicians followed by a slideshow of "12 centuries of history", and then a mind-boggling lightshow and firework display (simultaneously and with a loud rock soundtrack, with projected images of what looked like oozing paint on the screens that had been used for the slideshow). It was so Lézignan. They must have spent the whole budget for the next phase of the work on the fireworks, but they just banged them off in no particular order. See the other extras. Our friends from the anti-bitumen factory collective also showed up to wave flyers at the mayor of Lézignan, the only local mayor to be in favour of the project (surely not connected with the fact that the contractors are major sponsors of the Lézignan rugby team).
