Dig it ?

One of those days that starts off just like any other Sunday - and you make a decision to go somewhere that turns out to be really amazing.

No 1 stayed in bed today to nurse her cold. No 2 was playing with the music group at church (they were fabulous !!).

We decided to pop in to the West Tollcross Excavation Open Day. The building site for the new student accommodation was open to the public - showing the recently excavated industrial buildings of 1870's. The Iron Foundry buildings were clearly visible, and there are plans to further excavate to an earlier period over the next few weeks. Really fascinating (I have a soft spot for Iron Foundry's !)...and much more impressive than watching Time Team or Indiana Jones on TV ! The link to their webpage is here

After 30 mins outside we were freezing so headed to the nearby Forest Cafe for the best (and cheapest) pot of tea in Edinburgh - The chocolate brownies were the best I have tasted. I think you will like this place Auslander....tea, cake and old indian movies projected on a big screen. This is the new site for the cafe after the closure of the Bristo Place site. I'll be back!

Here's a little blip of Sorina Spanou and the Headland Team who kindly talked us through the archaeology work on the site.

Homework and Ironing tonight.
