Northern Exposure

Western horizon

Found myself with an unfilled hour in the far west of the Orkney Mainland so I wandered up to Yesnaby.

Spent my time just watching the birds whirling around the cliffs and having a good look at the rocks. I do love the rocks up there. The big slabs of Yesnaby flagstones are covered in the ghosts of long dried sand ripples and mud cracks from the Devonian seas 350 million years ago when Orkney’s landmass was south of the equator.

For once I managed to take a panorama pic with my phone that wasn’t too wobbly along the horizon and I even caught a bird in full flight without it being distorted. Couldn’t upload the full size version but hopefully you can spot that bird soaring over the horizon.
