Derwent Water
A busy day.
Maryport this morning to visit the Roman Museum. It was closed. But we were able to imagine what the Roman Soldiers who built the fort at Maryport might have thought as they looked across the Solway Firth to Dumfries and Galloway.
We hid our disappointment well consoling ourselves with an early lunch of fish and chips while we sat on the harbour wall, wondering what to do next.
Anniemay had a yen to visit Friar's Crag on the shores of Derwent Water. The extra shows her taking a panorama at the very spot.
Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain starts tomorrow in Cockermouth and finishes on top of the Whinlatter Pass. As it happens this is also a very nice way of getting to Derwent Water, so we drove over the route. For those interested in these things, it's a team time trial and could be a tricky one. The roads are narrow and twisty and steep in places so keeping the riders together could prove difficult for some teams.
Keswick and Derwent Water were packed with tourists, but by the time we got to Friars Crag we just had a few old age pensions for company.
The weather has been great and we've had another good day. Tomorrow the Tour comes past the end of the road so we'll wander down and watch the action.
