Oslo to Voss on the Bergen Railway
We travelled for 5 hours on this famous line which is billed as one of the most scenic in the world . It didn’t disappoint - it journeyed through wondrous mountain scenery passing forests, rivers and glaciers climbing to 1222.2 metres on the wild Hardanger Plateau . I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the scenery as well as the homesteads we passed - all so pretty .The roads are also quiet reflecting the low population density.
The final picture in the collage is the view from our window overlooking the lake at Voss. Our hotel is the Fleischers Hotel which opened in 1864.
Before we left Oslo we managed to visit the National Gallery which houses Munch’s ‘Scream’ painting as well as many impressionist and romantic paintings. There were some fabulous ones - see extras if you are interested.
We also went on a tram for the first time - the transport system in Oslo is excellent.
