End of an era

96 years ago.   Tens of thousands of men had returned from battle in France.   Continuing comradeship was a very important part of readjusting to a "normal" way of life.

Clubs like this one in School Brae in Peebles sprang up all over the country.

Of course, the original members had long since gone.  Many hundreds of others though enjoyed the social life here through the decades.

Last week the inevitable end came.   Dropping numbers, changes in social mores, mounting debts.......

Old soldiers may never die.....but their Clubs do.
