The Fountain Of Nineveh
A Kiltwalk practice this afternoon saw us walking to Bridge of Allan and back. It isn't really very far - maybe 5 or 6 miles in total.
Bridge of Allan is a separate town to Stirling but is almost joined on. It's very attractive. It used to be a spa town and was a popular destination in the 19th century. It is full of grand buildings and lovely Victorian houses. The Fountain Of Nineveh was built in 1851 as a 'whimsy'. It stands, sensibly enough, in Fountain Road. Apparently it's named after excavations going on at the time in the original Nineveh on the River Tigris. That's Victorians for you!
The walk home took us past Corrieri's cafe so we had to stop for ice-cream. I had banoffee but I don't think I'd rush back for it. I should stick to vanilla. Or raspberry ripple. Or tablet.
Wishing everyone a great weekend.
