King of the rock
This morning we had a gentle ride along the coastal path to the WWT Wetland Centre.
It was very quiet as the kids are now back at school. We had a look around the area with the hides and saw lots of knot on the estuary, a cute duck and robin and a terrapin trying to get to the blackberries (in one extra), then we went to the kingfisher hide and just as the sun hid the kingfisher arrived (he looked very dull and almost unrecognisable without sunlight, but perched for about 10 seconds on the rock about 50m from the hide (so not a great shot). Also by the hide was the heron stalking fish, and a migrant hawker dragonfly hovering in front of the window (also in an extra). Around the pond walk I tried to photograph common darters as they came in to land (not easy) see extra. And one final extra with the sunset, flamingos and an egret struggling to swallow a big fish!
Then a nice cup of coffee and a ride home. We put our intercoms on always open today rather than voice activated and that worked better. I have a hi-viz backpack cover and a bright red flashing light, and tell Mr T where there are potholes, bumps, bollards, people and cyclists so he can ride safely. He has done an amazing job this holiday, but was pleased to take the pedals off the bike today and know he has a day off tomorrow!
