Flower Friday: In the Buttercup Family

Clematis is one of my favorite vines. It is in the Ranunculaceae family and is related to buttercups, love-in-a-mist, and delphiniums. According to Wikipedia, there are over 2,000 known species of flowering plants in 43 genera, around the world in this family.

Jeff and I spent part of yesterday and today, finishing cleanup of the driveway bed that held the water feature with the giant boulders that he moved last week.

This morning we found deer prints in the bed. We are preparing it for ornamental grasses, lavender, and rosemary...all deer resistant!  I also want to plant a Japanese Coral Bark Maple in this bed. Its branches turn red in the winter, making for a beautiful bright spot during Portland's grey, wet winter days. I hope I can keep the deer away from it.

We have enjoyed a series of Indian Summer days here. I expect that will change in the next few weeks.
