Bellbird feeding in a kowhai tree
Nature Photography club trip to the Botanic Gardens this morning, Diana the trip leader had organised some challenges for us, one of which was photographing a bird! I was pleased to find this one, though I only got a couple of shots of it before it took off.
Bellbirds and native birds and are nectar eaters and are often seen in kowhai which is New Zealand's national flower. Because the flowers hang down and are quite firm, it's often easier for the bird to hang upside down and push its beak up into the flower.
