La Vie à Quatre Roues! Jour 10

Château de Montrésor, Indre-et-Loire

In the early hours of the morning, the humdimger of a thunderstorm duly arrived, accompanied by such strong winds that the van was rocking. Luckily we’d added extra guy ropes to the awning, but some of the smaller tents in the campsite disappeared overnight!

Following the thunderstorm, yesterday’s sizzling 32 degrees dropped to 17 degrees and we had a rather damp, cool visit to the medieval town of Loches on the Indre River. By chance we arrived on market day which added a little bit of welcome colour to the scene (see extra postcard). So much interesting history, definitely somewhere to return to on a sunnier and drier day...

En route to Montrésor, we made a quick visit to Chartreuse du Liget (2nd extra), a monastery founded in 1178 by Henry II, Count of Anjou and King of England, in atonement for the murder of Thomas Becket (Archbishop of Canterbury), committed on his command.

The lovely village of Montrésor was to be our stop for the night so we could enjoy the evening Son et Lumière show, but with the change in the weather, after a stroll around the village and an amazing exhibition of glass work (3rd & 4th extra), we continued our journey and found a campsite on the banks of the Cher river, just outside Chenonceaux, where we spent the evening watching hot air balloons taking off from the opposite riverbank (5th extra).
