Old Emyr's Bicycle.

Emyr Wyn ap Sion (born 1852 ),worked on the Great Western Railway, for 62 years.
He rode his bike, from his cottage and parked it on Platform 2, at Carrog station, every day of his working life.
At the end of a hard day's work, he always went to the local "Grouse Inn ",
for a pint, or several, before retrieving his beloved bike, from the station,
for the ride home.
On St.Llados night, Feb,22nd,1927, there was no moon and a severe snowstorm. By midnight, Old Emyr staggered from the "Grouse" and was never seen again.
The fields were searched and the river dragged, to no avail.
It was never possible to arrange a funeral or to erect a memorial.
The bike on platform 2, is Emyr's.
It has never been significantly moved, for over 80 years, because he sometimes comes to look for it.
Whenever St. Llados night is moonless and the wind is in the North East,
Old Emyr is sometimes seen as a tottering, shadowy figure, half frozen
and trailing river weeds, on Platform 2, checking that his pride and joy
is still there.
                    Sweet dreams !
