£302
Today's been rather a fixing-it day. On the agenda were un-bodging a pine bed, looking at a fix for a wheelchair, plus having electricians and decorators in for the purple room and related refurbishments.
What wasn't on the agenda was the oak table, but that unexpectedly came apart this morning. It has a curious extending method involving a helical screw and a 'starting handle'. It's always been a bit tight, the wood having warped a bit, but what I hadn't realised was that the tightness was pulling out the screws - until it succeeded this morning.
Thus, much fettling this morning before getting on to the agenda proper. However, the surprise was finding the price still written underneath. For the children, that's three hundred and two pounds, nineteen shillings and elevenpence in proper money. Look in your history books.
If the table is ~1965 (decimalisation was 1971) that works out at around £5000 in this modern plastic rubbish.
Hmmm.
