Jumping monkey
We were allowed to sleep in today till 5.30am. Today we headed to the Clay lick place. The parrots here eat the un-ripened fruit, which causes acid in their system. To overcome this they eat the clay from the river backs to naturalise it. As normal this is a morning thing here before it gets too hot. Nice trip down the tributary to get the main boat to go and look at the parrots. Saw the same sloth that was in the tree last night and managed to get a better pic this time. Parrots were fantastic especially when they all decided to fly off the wall at the same time. Next stop was a local village. They have agreed to let the land the lodge is built on and the women have created a local organisation, which keeps the traditional customs alive for the younger folk and the tourists to come and see. When were first got there our local guide found an Anaconda in the swamp but we could only see part of it. We were shown all about the traditional food and drink and given some catfish, banana, plantain and lava grubs to eat. The lava grubs tasted like bacon. While we were eating Henry had managed to capture the anaconda and our other guide picked it up for us to get a better look. He asked if anyone wanted to hold it and G said yes, thinking he was going to just put it around her neck. She ended up with it around her neck while she held the head and tail. J held the middle bit as well. Ugly looking thing with lots of teeth. They put it in a sack and let it loose in the river to get it way from the locals land as it attacks the chickens. Headed back to the lodge for lunch. Spent the afternoon not doing much before we went fishing for piranhas off the jetty. We didn’t exactly fish more just fed them but the guide Henry managed to catch a couple in the bit J had been swimming in yesterday. Went for a last canoe ride around the lake and saw a troop of capuchin monkeys very close. Had a great time here but we must leave the creepy crawlies and go back to civilisation tomorrow.
