Unexpected visitor
I don’t like pigeons much. The amount of extra work they cause on the allotment defending my brassicas and suchlike from their depredations doesn’t bear thinking about. But this little baby melted our hearts when we found her (?) crouched in the fireplace having tumbled down the chimney. She stayed calm with barely a flutter when Sarah ever so gently picked her up, and after posing for a photo flew back to the rooftop, having learned a valuable lesson, we hope, about the dangers of chimney pots. This was graphically illustrated a few weeks ago when another pigeon had slipped down the chimney and got itself trapped. Sadly there was nothing we could do to rescue it as we listened to it flapping over several days. Our hope is it at last managed to free itself, otherwise pigeon number 2 wouldn’t have been able to free fall into our fireplace.
