Speckled Wood
Spotted this sunbathing butterfly at my work allotment yesterday. It is not a butterfly that I could readily identify but seems to be a 'Speckled Wood', which would be correct for the location it was found in.
Here is a bit of info about it-
'The aptly named Speckled Wood flies in partially shaded woodland with dappled sunlight. The male usually perches in a small pool of sunlight, from where it rises rapidly to intercept any intruder. Both sexes feed on honeydew in the tree tops and are rarely seen feeding on flowers, except early and late in the year when aphid activity is low.'
After work went for a good walk from New Haven to the start of the Granton end of the esplanade. We went to The Starbank Pub which we had not been to for years, and we were impressed with the food and hospitality. The extra today is of Granton Harbour taken from the road up behind Wardie Steps.
