Saint Nikolaos Orthodox Church

This is near red beach on the south coast of Santorini.

We got the bus from Thira and walked to the lookout over Red Beach (see 1st extra)  Red beach itself was officially closed due to danger of rockfall but it was packed with people.  Instead we decided to get the boat to Black Beach where we had a nice lunch and a dip in the sea.

We finished the afternoon with a visit to the excavations of the Minoan settlement buried in volcanic ash in the volcanic eruption of 1627 BC much like Pompeii.  My second extra shows some rather impressive Amphori discovered in the excavation
