A. Seaside Trip for our Visitors

What better way to spend a sunny afternoon with our visitors than take them on a shoogly number 26 bus over the potholes to Portobello and show them the seaside, Edinburgh style.
It’s not that they don’t know what seaside is,coming from Chichester, but North Sea seaside is presumably a bit more bracing and it was good to be removed from the city tourists and now the added crush of returning students.

We enjoyed the traditional sea side ritual of ice creams as we watched the coming and goings on the beach while ambling along the prom. None of our party was persuaded to remove a sock or shoe to enjoy the feel of sand on their tootsies or the sensation of very cold water lapping round their ankles.
It was a grand afternoon out and many a picture was taken of blue sky, fluffy white clouds and the groynes stretching far out to reach the ebbing tide.

Arriving home, I hot footed it to the local ironmonger to buy some garden refuse bags to accommodate a mountain of shorn lavender, only to find the shop closed. I had forgotten that some shops outwith the city centre still close on a Wednesday afternoon. I wish I could have a bonfire...........
