Train trip
We enjoyed a train trip from Nuwara Eliya to Ella, after a rather eventful morning. We got up at five o’clock to get to the Horton Plains national park, but didn’t really need an alarm, as the call to prayer blasted out into the ether. Just as well we need to be up. We arrived at the park at 7:15, and were supposed to get back from the circuit by ten in order to catch the train. Needless to say it was a harder walk, at 2,200 feet up and down rocky tussocks et al. So we missed the first train. The second was late, but we managed to get seats in third class amongst the locals. We were entertained by an impromptu concert by some holidaying seminarians, who were great fun.
The train tracks are still British, but the trains are chinese
