Adluh
This is the manufacturing center for Allen Brothers Milling who make grits, flour and other products as shown on the sign. The business started in 1900, so I asked if Adluh was a family name in the Allen family. The lady who sold me bags of grits told me the story is that the original onwers of the business had a young daughter whose name was Hulda and Adluh is Hulda spelled backwards. This plant is in downtown Columbia, SC about 4 blocks from the SC state capitol building. Thanks to all of you who have offered support and prayers regarding the approach of Hurricane Florence. We might move from one daughter's house to another (in Raleigh) as the track has changed, and I am concerned about being in the best location to try to go home after the storm although that could be delayed depending on flooding and other damage in the area where we live. Current predictions for our area are 24+ inches of rain, and winds of over 100 mph even after the storm makes landfall. Storm surge is expected to be 6-9 ft. and more not to far away which means as I understand it, water will be that many feet above normal high tide. I can't imagine standing on the beach at high tide and thinking wind driven water might be that many feet above where I am standing.
