ABSTRACT THURSDAY - EYE TWISTING

A few weeks ago, Mr. HCB and I were out at a garden centre near Cirencester and we both loved this sculpture, which was moving so gracefully in the wind showing off the wonderful patina.  In fact, it was quite “eye twisting” so we went in search of one inside the store.

We couldn’t find one in the bronze colour, only in silver, but it didn’t have the same effect, so we found an assistant and asked if they had any more bronze sculptures.  He said that the one outside was the last one, but as it had been outside, then he would give us a 20% discount.  We were happy with that and as we had been given a gift for our Golden Wedding that hadn’t yet been spent, decided that we would buy this and as it was a sort of burnished gold, it would remind us of our Golden Wedding.

Because it was the only one, it had to be transported as it was, so there was a little jiggery pokery needed before Mr. HCB could get it into the back of our small car - but he did it and then drove home very gingerly, so as not to damage it.

When we got home, Mr. HCB had to do a couple of minor adjustments while I polished up the curved pieces on the sculpture and then it was put up in front of the blue fence, not without difficulty, as we have heavy clay soil - but we did it together.

To make it a little more “eye twisting” I have played around with this, but I’m sure you can see the beauty of the sculpture.  The inner part moves clockwise and the outer part moves anti-clockwise so it is mesmerising to watch, in fact, we often just sit in the conservatory and watch it moving in the wind - and when the sun catches the blades, it is beautiful.

This may not be its final place in the garden, and once the flower border in front is sorted out, it may go there - but until then, we will enjoy watching it and remember the kind family who made this gift possible.
