Stoking the Boiler

Another Heritage Open Day - this time a visit to Queen Street Mill, Burnley.
Today they had the boiler fired up and the mill working under full power.
My Dad was a stoker at the hospital where we lived and had two of these Lancashire Boilers to run.  I well remember 'helping' him after school and during the holidays.
My first extra shows the inside of the mill - it was all running under power and the noise was horrendous...
My second extra is of a Tackler's Bench.  The Tackler had the real power in the mill - he repaired your loom when it broke down.  The speed and quality of his repair was crucial to your earnings.  Some Tacklers were not popular with the workforce....
