A giant(s) parade
We live in a small village close to Bergen op Zoom, a medieval town with some great historic buildings and great historic traditions. There are at least two yearly special parade events there, the carnival parade and a religious procession in honour of the Lady Mary. Lately there's also a giants parade and Bergen op Zoom has its own giants depicting its medieval lord Jan II van Glymes (also called Jan with the lips, as he had some deformation of his lips) and his wife Trui van de Toren. Despite his lips or maybe thanks to his lips Lord Jan apparently fathered 50 children, I hope Trui didn't have to carry them all ;-) Because the town loves events they decided to have yet another special parade this year and they invited all the major towns and villages in Dutch and Belgian Brabant to join in with an entry from their own favourite parades, be it religious processions, carnival, flower parades etc. Resulting in a unique collection of floats, bands, carriages, pedestrian groups and more. I went to have a look at the starting point and captured the Bergse giants :-) Unfortunately I overdid the walking to get there and I'm now suffering the consequences, my left foot/heel/ankle is so very very painful. I will need to have it seen to before we go on our holiday next week or I'll have to sit that holiday out :-(
Thanks so much for all the eyetwisting entries for Abstract Thursday, you were al very creative again and made it hard to choose !
