White Pelicans

Common this time of year in small groups. I shot this around a small group (about 20), near Palo Alto in front of the Baylands Lucy Evans Nature Center. They were scooping up small fish in the water as they swam around. Some were scooping mud and filtering out the invertebrates as well.

They are big birds with a 5 - 6 foot wingspan and really great low to the water fliers while holding formation as they glide over looking for fish.
