Chillingham Wild cattle

What a treat! It was quite a steep 20 minute walk up to the visitors centre that took us exactly 40 minutes! We asked how long the walking tour would be and were assured by our guide that she wouldn't go too quickly for us. Then she really surprised us by saying that as no more visitors had arrived for the noon tour she would take us round in her 4x4 all terrain buggy! All our pictures were taken through rather grubby windows, but we didn't mind!
This is a unique herd of over 100 cattle that live a completely wild existence relying solely on nature for their survival! Never touched by human hand! The breed is thought to go back thousands of years.
When the tour was ended our lovely young guide took us "via the scenic route" back to our motorhome parked at the bottom of the steep hill beside her cottage where she went home for her lunch. We felt like V.I.Ps
