Another day another Springfield
Hotel #4
Final stop: Springfield Missouri
Started the morning with realising that the car issues were making us feel so on edge that as soon as we felt another little wobble we decided to head straight for a hertz garage. We explained the issue and they just gave us another car. It’s a Kia (Kevin) and is infinitely better, even as a passenger.
So much so that I had my first drive :)
So started at a sculpture park in St Louis which was quite strange and then things just got stranger as we went a long the route.
The world’s 2nd largest rocket my chair, a giant rock painted like a frog, and a town called Uranus...with a fudge factory. Incidentally the fudge is amazing - pretty sure I put on weight just looking at it.
A big distinction between US and UK driving became apparent today, and that is the road kill. We were amazed at first to see a dead armadillo. By the end of the trip the count was 26 dead armadillos, 5 raccoons (or similar fluffy things), 2 tortoises (yes really) and 1 deer. And that was just the animals that were still distinguishable...
We arrived at our first motel later than intended but still plenty of time to change and get out to find food where Rich could also watch the bears game.
Ate at a restaurant called Black sheep. Amazing burgers and alcoholic milkshakes.
Tomorrow is a big day as we will drive in 3 states so once again we are early to bed, however the schedule does not start until 10.30 am so no stresses :)
